Ernen


Near the well known Aletsch region in Valais, Switzerland, is the beautiful village of Ernen located. The village is situated on 1200 meters and as around 540 inhabitants.  In 2005 the municipality of Ernen merged with the smaller municipalities of Mühlebach, Ausserbinn en Steinhaus.


In 1979 Ernen was awarded with the Henry-Louis Wakker price for its well conserved and , beautiful village. Ernen is worldwide known as "Ernen Musical village", because it hosts and organizes international masterclasses for classical music for over 25 years. The concerts usually take place in the summer. It is worth visit the beautiful  St. Georg church, with its spectecular fresco's, alterpieces and the stunning views over the Rhone valley.


 

Ernen is also a family destination and the village is decorated with the label "Family Welcome". It offers many opportunities for winter fun for everyone. In winter, Ernen offers a beautiful winter landscape which invites to winter activities. For the winter, there are plenty of opportunities such as skiing, cross country skiing, hiking and sledging. In the village there are some good restaurants.


In summer the surroundings of Ernen are excellent for climbing, hiking, biking, paragliden, driving over mountain passes, trips by train (e.g. Glacier Express)  etc.


Binntal Nature Park


Near Ernen the spectacular Binntal Nature Park is located. The Binntal valley is famous for its minerals, its unspoiled nature and the hiking route to Italy, via the Albrunpass.
